South Georgia Wildfires

Wildfires are burning across the region, and our Operation Humane team is already in motion. We deployed to Blackshear, where local partners are caring for animals displaced by evacuations and loss.

One shelter has burned to the ground, leaving dozens of animals without a place to return. We are stepping in to help carry that burden... moving animals to safety, delivering critical food supplies, and standing alongside the caregivers doing everything they can to keep up.

Wildfires are impacting South Georgia. Act early. Protect your household.

If you’re under evacuation orders:

  • Leave immediately. Do not wait.

  • Take your animals with you.

  • Use a leash, carrier, or crate to keep them secure and within reach.

If time is limited, take what matters most:

  • Animals with ID tags

  • Leash or carrier

  • Food and water (Even a small supply helps)

  • Medications, if available

Smoke safety matters:

  • Keep animals indoors if you are not evacuating

  • Limit time outside

  • Watch for coughing, labored breathing, or weakness

  • If you see a loose or abandoned animal and it is safe to act, contact the local animal control or a nearby shelter.
