25 Beagles were rescued over Christmas.
Before Operation Humane had its name, our Operation Humane Team was already doing the work. Under the Atlanta Humane banner, they led complex cruelty investigations, stood alongside law enforcement in moments of crisis, and stepped into communities when animals had nowhere else to turn. The leadership, the expertise, and the resolve you’ll read about here were built in those years of service.

The call came just two days before Christmas, but timing did not slow the response. Our teams coordinated transport, prepared space, and traveled quickly to bring the dogs to safety because waiting was not an option.
The beagles were gentle and social, but understandably nervous after living in overcrowded and unstable conditions, and many required immediate medical care. Several had visible tumors or masses needing further veterinary evaluation, others were suffering from chronic skin issues and hair loss, and most required extensive dental care after going without routine treatment for far too long.
For dogs who had lived without consistency or adequate care, even this first step into safety was overwhelming. What they needed most was calm handling, medical attention, and time to begin stabilizing, and those needs guided every decision made during and after the rescue.
We knew there were so many more animals like these beagles living in neglect throughout Georgia, and that’s why Operation Humane was built. There needs to be an entity who can act without hesitation, even during holidays, and provide protection and follow-through when animals have nowhere else to turn.
